A Note from the Founder

Hi, I’m MacKenzie—founder and director of The Madux Academy.

I’m a Western Kentucky native, and in 2018, my daughter Brylee and I moved to Louisville in search of a fresh start after the heartbreaking loss of my son, Madux. At the time, I couldn’t see the full picture, but God was gently leading me toward a greater purpose.

In 2020, amidst the uncertainty of COVID, I met the love of my life, Matt. We’ll be getting married this May! We live just outside of St. Matthews with our seven dogs (yes, seven!) and spend most of our time at volleyball tournaments, savoring these last few years with Brylee before she heads off into the world.

In 2021, I began working part-time as the secretary at Crossroads Christian Church of St. Matthews while completing my bachelor’s degree in psychology at Spalding University. By spring of 2022, I was offered the role of director for the church’s Mother’s Day Out program. What followed was a whirlwind season of growth, learning, and connection with some truly incredible families. In December of 2024, the opportunity presented itself to create The Madux Academy.

Vision
At The Madux Academy, my dream is to create a space filled with kindness, adventure, encouragement, and meaningful learning—a place where children are not only prepared academically but also nurtured emotionally. I believe every child deserves to feel safe, cherished, and free to explore the world around them—values inspired by my own children and my journey as a mother.

The Heart Behind Madux Academy
Madux was nearly eight years old when he was tragically hit and killed by a car while riding his bicycle. I’m forever grateful for every moment I had the privilege of being his mom. He was curious, creative, energetic, and kind. He loved baseball, being outdoors, and coloring Ninja Turtle pictures to give to people he loved—and most of all, he loved the Lord. In May of 2016, just months before the accident, he was saved and baptized. Watching him grow taught me how vital it is for children to be seen, heard, loved, and encouraged.

Brylee and I have been through so much together, and I couldn’t be prouder of the compassionate young woman she’s become. She’s mentored with Crossroads Kids, completed the American Red Cross Babysitter’s Course, and when she’s not busy with school or volleyball, she’s often helping out at the academy. Her ability to uplift and encourage younger children is something truly special—she’s a daily reminder of the power of love, resilience, and connection. These are the same values we’ve woven into the heart of The Madux Academy.

Looking Forward
It’s my hope that every child and family who walks through the doors of The Madux Academy feels the same love that Madux gave so freely—the same warmth, care, and sense of purpose that have guided my journey from grief to growth.

With gratitude,
MacKenzie C.
